If you are planning a wedding, it doesn’t have to be the staid, traditional type. More and more couples are choosing to go the funky route when it comes to their big day. Indeed, the more unusual the idea, be it the venue or the style, the better.

Of course, if the wedding is going to be funky, then you will need a funky wedding invitation! And they are out there believe me!

Some stationers offer cards with a very simple photograph of a flower done very close up. The colors are normally bright and vibrant – perhaps a gerbera or a white rose – in outline on one side on a stark white card. This minimalist look is very hip for today’s bright young things and has become very popular.

If the wedding venue or honeymoon is in some exotic place, there are cards to fit that too! How about a picture of a lone palm tree on a deserted white beach with an azure ocean in the background? I can feel the sun on me as we speak!

One young couple, tired of the usual ‘which color card do you want?’ actually opted for large pebbles as place cards. They painted on the name and table number of the guest and left them on a tray of sand at the reception venue. It was a great hit and look how much money and time was saved!

Funky wedding invitations don’t have to be outlandish though. They should reflect what the couple represents and what mood they want for their great day.

Circular cards are a nice idea. One couple went the whole hog and had circles – as in the circle of life/never ending love – as the motif for their wedding. Even the order of service was round pages made into a booklet. Their wedding invitations were a circle which opened up to reveal the wedding invitation. A kind of mini origami style.

So, whatever you think you want, whatever you think you should have, it is available somewhere. If it isn’t, why not start at trend and show everyone how to be funky!
